The objective of our final project in Digital Illustration was to create a paper doll. The paper doll must Include three outfits and a stand. After creating a unique paper doll we must print it on card stock. Above, you can see my paper doll modeling all three of her outfits.
When first given the assignment, I googled different types of paper dolls to get inspiration. The paper doll assignment also took me back to when I was a kid when I would go to Barbie.com and myscene.com to print off their paper dolls. I decided to create myself as a paper doll. I sketched out different poses and outfits I could wear that represented me best. After I was satisfied with my sketches, I headed over to Adobe Illustrator.
In Illustrator I began with drawing my figure. I wanted to give it Barbie like qualities, while also keeping it true to my natural body type. I also exaggerated my facial features to make me look like a Barbie doll. For the outfits, I decided to go with three different styles that represent me. Leggings and a T-shirt is mostly what I wear but sometimes I actually have the energy to dress up a little. The dress, the skirt, and cheetah print shirt represent my style when I get dressed up a little. After completing all my outfits I added a background and white tabs to each outfit.
This project was a great way to end the class. This project was really fun and allowed me to be really creative. During this project I became more familiar and comfortable using Adobe Illustrator. The first project of the class was a geometric portrait and the final project was me choosing to create myself as a paper doll. Both projects very different, but both are me.
